Serie A pushes for December 28 transfer window start
Italian clubs want to start their January business early — but FIFA still has the final say.

Window opens
December 28, 2026
Window closes
February 1, 2027
Applies to
Serie A, Serie B, Lega Pro
Status
Pending FIFA approval
What happened. Serie A clubs proposed opening the 2027 January transfer window on December 28 instead of January 2, and the FIGC accepted the plan at today's meeting. The change can only be finalised once FIFA approves it.
- Clubs argue the earlier start lets deals fall within the financial year to help balance the books.
- The window still closes on February 1, 2027, so it is extended rather than shifted.
- The Premier League, LaLiga and others keep the January 2 opening.
Italian clubs now wait on FIFA's green light before the expanded window is confirmed.
