Second time in 2026 that inquest has been adjournedSheffield United midfielder died in 2023, aged 27An inquest into the death of the Sheffield United midfielder Maddy Cusack has been adjourned again to an unspecified date, nearly three years after she died on 20 September 2023, aged 27.The hearing, which began on 29 June and has heard eight full days of evidence, had been scheduled to conclude listening to evidence on Friday before the coroner would return to Chesterfield coroner’s court to deliver her conclusions on 27 July, but on Thursday it was confirmed the proceedings had been delayed. Dr Delroy Hall said Cusack struggled to juggle two jobsCusack was found dead at her home in September 2023The former club chaplain at Sheffield United has told an inquest into Maddy Cusack’s death that she repeatedly asked him not to inform the club that she had been speaking to him.Dr Delroy Hall volunteered in the role at Sheffield United from 2017 until November 2023, around two months after Cusack’s death on 20 September 2023. Hall told the court on Wednesday that he thought players would come to him to discuss problems as a “last resort”. Prince Abdullah asserts he is still owed £35mShares allegedly transferred to new companyThe English Football League is investigating allegations that Sheffield United’s owner, the American investment group COH Sports, has formed a new parent company for the club to avoid paying £35m owed to the previous owner, Prince Abdullah.COH Sports, led by Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy, agreed a deal to buy United from the Saudi Arabian for about £100m in December 2024 and paid the first instalment of about £30m shortly after, but are alleged to have been late in paying the second instalment and missed two subsequent payments due this year. Abdullah’s investment vehicle, United World, issued a winding-up petition in the high court against COH Sports this week and has taken its concerns to the EFL and the Independent Football Regulator.
