What happened. Gainsborough Trinity have condemned a person who approached players with transfer and wage offers while falsely claiming to be their manager. The club say the individual contacted a number of players across different levels of the non-league pyramid.
- CEO Matt Boles said the approaches did not come from manager Russ Wilcox or the club
- Other clubs' officials contacted Wilcox directly after suspecting the messages were not his
- Boles told the impersonator: 'Enough is enough'
“Enough is enough. Stop impersonating our manager, stop wasting the time of players and clubs”
— Matt Boles
Gainsborough want the bogus approaches stopped to protect players, managers and clubs across non-league football.
