Chelsea close to Kone deal, Gittens loan mooted

What happened. Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal with Roma for France midfielder Manu Kone, with a fee of around £52m being discussed. The clubs are also exploring a loan move for Jamie Gittens to go the other way.

• Kone is being lined up as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who is in talks over a move to Manchester City.
• The French international was previously linked with a move to Manchester United.
• The loan for Gittens is still being explored as part of the negotiations.

If completed, Kone would bolster Chelsea's midfield, while Gittens would gain Serie A experience.
