Fifa ruled no jurisdiction
What happened. Jean-Philippe Mateta is challenging the validity of the final 10 months of his Crystal Palace contract, taking his case to Fifa after an independent tribunal found it binding.
- Mateta signed a 4.5-year deal in January 2022 with a 12-month option.
- Palace activated the option in 2024, extending the deal to 2027.
- Fifa ruled it cannot overrule the contract this week.
If successful, Mateta could become a free agent before his deal ends next year.
